We are continuing to work with our architects FOCAL Design on our Phase II
Science and Technology Center. We have met with several construction firms and
have been discussing aspects of this important project with the City of Kansas
City Brownsfield Program, the Missouri Department of Conservation, and
numerous stakeholders.
We plan to break ground on our new facility in the late spring of 2024 and are
rapidly moving forward with seeking funding and support for this $20 million
project. The Science and Technology Center will comprise two connected buildings
(as shown in the drawing) with a regulation gymnasium and kitchen, 9
classrooms, a culinary classroom, offices, and a conference room connected by a
large atrium area designed for flexible learning, events, and as a gathering place.
Phase II expands our facilities into the 1.7 acres of Emmanuel campus which fronts
Brush Creek and will include 90 parking spaces all in a park-like setting filled
with lush plantings, numerous trees, walking paths, and a butterfly garden.
Our 30,000 sq. ft. Center will also function as a multipurpose area for the community
organizations who would like to hold educational activities and events outside of
Emmanuel programming hours. What has been a row of blighted homes and
apartments will be transformed into a welcoming space for Emmanuel families
and children, our neighbors, and the larger Kansas City Community.
