Applicants must be 17 years or older.

Our AmeriCorps Members Provide:

Speech Therapy

The Members providing speech therapy are enrolled in a Master's level speech pathology program. They are supported throughout all their service hours by a certified Speech Therapist who coordinates their service activities throughout the day and oversees their caseload. Each Speech Therapy Member will carry a caseload of 7-8 students meeting weekly or bi-weekly for 30 minutes. They will also meet with up to 10 English and Spanish language groups per week. Each meeting will last approximately 45 minutes. Speech Therapy Members completing their service term at Emmanuel will have met their internship requirements for graduating with a Master's degree in Speech Pathology. We currently partner with Rockhurst University's Speech and Language Therapy Department.

Enrichment

Members providing academic support in the classroom are partnered with Lead Teachers who are trained and certified in curriculum development, classroom instruction, and student support. Members are given the opportunity to develop lesson plans for small groups, and individual instruction. Members will gain valuable experience and information about early childhood education which may inspire them to pursue careers in our field. In addition, they will experience working with children from under-resourced backgrounds and gain critical insights into cultures they may not have otherwise experienced

Counseling

The Members who provide counseling services at Emmanuel are Master's level students enrolled in a local university's counseling program and receive weekly classroom instruction that focuses on child development and effective therapeutic models. The Members implement what they are learning in their service at Emmanuel by providing one-on-one therapy sessions and socio-emotional classroom support. Emmanuel will continue providing weekly supervision for Members through a licensed clinical therapist who oversees their caseload and staff cases each week. Each Member will carry a caseload of 5-10 Pre-K or school-age children. They will meet with them on a weekly or bi-weekly basis for 45-55 minutes. In between individual sessions, they will maintain client case notes and provide socio-emotional support in the classrooms. Counseling Members completing their service term at Emmanuel will have met their internship requirements for graduating with a Master's degree in professional counseling.

AMERICORPS PLEDGE

I will get things done for America - to make our people safer, smarter, and healthier.

I will bring Americans together to strengthen our communities.

Faced with apathy, I will take action.

Faced with conflict, I will seek common ground.

Faced with adversity, I will persevere.

I will carry this commitment with me this year and beyond.
I am an AmeriCorps member, and I will get things done.
