Mental Health Services at Emmanuel

At Emmanuel Family and Child Development Center, we believe that healthy emotional development is just as important as academic and physical growth. That’s why we’ve built a comprehensive mental health program that supports the whole child's physical, mental, and social and emotional development. Our mental wellness services are thoughtfully integrated into every aspect of our programming and tailored to meet the unique needs of the children and families we serve.

What We Offer:

On-Site Clinical Team

We are proud to have a dedicated on-site clinical mental health team that provides direct therapeutic services to children enrolled at Emmanuel. Our licensed therapist and clinical interns offer both individual and group counseling, addressing a wide range of emotional and behavioral needs. Children are referred for services based on behavioral observations, teacher referrals, or assessment results. Our therapy sessions are trauma-informed, child-centered, and designed to help children build the skills they need to self-regulate, express their emotions, and thrive both socially and academically.

Our clinical team also collaborates closely with teachers and families, offering support strategies and consultations to ensure each child’s emotional well-being is nurtured both in the classroom and at home.

Social Emotional Wellness (S.E.W.)– Funded by COMBAT

Through our partnership with COMBAT (Community Backed Anti-Crime Tax), Emmanuel offers a robust social and emotional learning (SEL) component embedded within the classroom environment. Our goal is to address early signs of dysregulation, behavioral challenges, and trauma responses through proactive and age-appropriate SEL interventions.

With COMBAT funding, we provide classroom-based support to help children build critical social-emotional skills, including:

  • Self-awareness and emotional regulation

  • Conflict resolution and relationship building

  • Mindfulness and coping techniques

  • Classroom routines that promote a safe and calm learning environment

Our COMBAT-funded initiatives help create trauma-informed classrooms where every child is seen, supported, and empowered to learn.

Partnership with Cornerstone of Care

To deepen our impact, we’ve partnered with Cornerstone of Care, a respected local nonprofit organization committed to the mental and behavioral health of children and families. Through this partnership, we are able to offer:

  • Individual and small-group therapy sessions conducted on-site

  • Family-centered interventions that support parents and caregivers

  • Crisis support and referrals for children experiencing acute emotional or behavioral distress

  • Professional development and consultation for our staff in trauma-informed care and classroom behavior strategies

Tier-Level Assessment & Individualized Services

Emmanuel uses a tiered model of mental health assessment and intervention to ensure each child receives the right level of support at the right time. Upon enrollment and throughout the school year, children are evaluated through a combination of developmental screenings, behavioral assessments, and teacher input.

  • Tier 1: Universal supports and classroom-based SEL strategies for all children

  • Tier 2: Targeted interventions for children with mild to moderate concerns (e.g., small group counseling, SEL coaching)

  • Tier 3: Intensive, individualized therapeutic services for children with significant emotional or behavioral needs

This multi-tiered approach allows us to respond with precision, ensuring that no child falls through the cracks. Data collected from assessments and progress monitoring informs treatment plans and ensures accountability for outcomes.

Who Provides Care

Our mental health services are led by licensed clinicians, certified behavioral health professionals, and experienced school-based mental health staff. They collaborate closely with educators, support staff, and families to develop a holistic understanding of each child’s needs.

Our Commitment to Emotional Wellness

Access to on-site healthcare reduces absenteeism, helps identify concerns early, and empowers families to keep their children healthy without the added stress of finding transportation or missing work. We’re proud to provide this level of care as part of our commitment to early childhood success.
